Write amounts in lakh and crore, the way Indian listeners count: a lakh is a hundred thousand and a crore is ten million. Spell them out, as in "two lakh rupees" or "fifteen crore users", so nobody has to decode the commas. Dates in India go day first, so write "the fourth of May" instead of slashes.

Choose vocabulary for the listener. "Prepone", "revert" for reply, and "timepass" sound friendly to Indian viewers but can puzzle someone in Toronto. If one video serves both, say "bring forward" and "reply". Office phrases like "do the needful" suit a helpline better than an ad.

Many Indian English scripts borrow Hindi words: ji, chalo, jugaad, the names of foods and festivals. Spell each one the way it appears on menus and shop signs, such as paneer or Navratri, use the same spelling every time, and preview those lines.

Support lines for Indian customers

A company based in London or Singapore can voice its helpline welcome and menu for callers in India, then edit a line when an option changes.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

British spelling, in most cases. Indian schools, newspapers and government documents write colour, centre, programme and cheque. Spelling rarely changes how a word sounds, but it does show up in your SRT captions, and Indian viewers notice "color" on screen. Pick one convention and keep it across the script and the captions.

Preview every line with a person's name or a place name before you generate, especially long ones such as Thiruvananthapuram or Venkataraman. If one is read the wrong way, add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry covers every line in the project.
