Bosnian has two official alphabets, Latin and Cyrillic, but most newspapers, signs and websites in Bosnia and Herzegovina use Latin. Its 30 letters include č, ć, dž, đ, š and ž, and lj, nj and dž each count as one letter. Keep the marks: kuća is a house, while kuca means someone is knocking.

Choose the words your listeners use. Standard Bosnian is ijekavian, so write rijeka, mlijeko and dijete. It also keeps an h that neighbouring standards drop, as in kahva, lahko and sahat, and many everyday words came from Turkish, such as čaršija, avlija and komšija. Croatian kava or Serbian kafa in the same script will stand out to a listener in Sarajevo.

Dates go day first, with a full stop after each number: 1. 3. 2026. Months use the international names, januar, februar, mart and so on. Decimals take a comma (2,5) and thousands a dot (1.500). If a brand name or English word is misread, set its reading in the pronunciation dictionary.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

The three standards share a base and their speakers understand each other easily, but listeners notice the differences. Bosnian is ijekavian like Croatian, uses international month names like Serbian, and has its own words such as kahva. Choose these voices for audiences in Bosnia and Herzegovina; the Croatian and Serbian pages are listed above.

Latin, in most cases. Both alphabets are official, but Bosnian-language schools, broadcasters and businesses mostly write in Latin. If a client needs Cyrillic, keep the whole script in one alphabet rather than switching midway, and preview a few lines before the full recording.
