Odia has its own script, not a version of Bengali. Both come from the Brahmi family, but Odia letters carry a rounded, umbrella-like curve on top, often traced to writing on palm leaves, where a straight line could split the leaf. Text pasted from an old PDF can turn into broken characters if it used a non-Unicode font, so retype or convert it first.

Odia keeps the final vowel that Hindi drops, so ରାମ is said close to Ramo, not Ram. Write words in standard spelling and let the voice add the sound; do not add extra vowel signs to force it. Keep ଳ and ଲ apart, since they are different letters: ଜଳ, water, takes ଳ.

ଆପଣ is the polite you for customers, elders and announcements; ତୁମେ is familiar, and ତୁ is for close friends. Verbs follow, as in ଆସନ୍ତୁ (please come) and ଆସ (come). Since 2011 the English names are Odia and Odisha, so use those, not Oriya and Orissa, in any English lines. Add any place or brand name that is read wrongly to the pronunciation dictionary.

Yes. Odia has 1 male and 1 female voices. Use the gender filter above the voice list and try a few with your own first line.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

Yes. Oriya is the older English spelling. In 2011 India changed the official English names to Odia for the language and Odisha for the state. You may still see Oriya on older keyboards and in font names. The language and its script are the same either way.

Write in standard Odia, the form used in schools, newspapers and on television. Sambalpuri, spoken in western Odisha, has its own words and verb forms, so a script written in it may not sound the way a Sambalpuri listener expects. Preview a few lines first and ask a local speaker to listen.
